Overview
The M8 is XSTO's newest chair, unveiled at the REHACARE show in Düsseldorf on 23 September 2026. It sits between the compact M4 series and the stair-climbing X12: each of its four wheels has its own motor and suspension, the rear tyres are larger off-road types, and the seat levels itself automatically as the chassis tilts on a slope.
The seat rises and tilts under power, the backrest reclines by hand, and a seat-position memory lets you return to a favourite setting with one touch. It uses up to three removable batteries - two in the backrest and one in the base - which can be charged on the chair or separately. As a brand-new model, UK availability was pre-order only when we checked.

Things to consider
Our honest notes, from XSTO’s figures and UK rules. Worth raising with the seller or your assessor.
- The M8 was launched in September 2026. Early UK orders were pre-orders (the UK distributor quoted about 12 weeks), and independent real-world experience is limited so far.
- The 54 km figure is XSTO's maximum 'with optional battery'. XSTO does not state the range of the standard configuration in what we read, so ask.
- Its 12 km/h (7.4 mph) top speed is above the 4 mph pavement limit, so it must be limited to 4 mph on pavements. XSTO does not state a UK class; ask the seller whether it is supplied as class 2 or class 3 and whether it has everything GOV.UK requires for road use.
- At 68.6 kg without batteries it is much heavier than the M4, although it still folds.
- Each backrest battery works out at about 645 Wh and the base battery at about 484 Wh (volts × amp-hours), all above the 300 Wh limit for batteries that have to be removed for a flight. Speak to your airline well in advance.
- Although it handles grass, gravel and kerbs, it is not a stair-climber.

Certifications and approvals
We did not find product-specific certification documents (such as UKCA or CE declarations, or MHRA registration) on XSTO’s product pages. XSTO’s corporate site shows a range of approval marks without saying which apply to which model. If approvals matter to you, ask the seller for the documents for this model.
UK rules for this model
UK class: not stated by XSTO
XSTO quotes a top speed of 12 km/h. That is faster than the 4 mph (6 km/h) class 2 limit, so on pavements it must be kept to 4 mph. Road use needs a class 3 vehicle with the equipment GOV.UK lists, and class 3 vehicles must be registered with DVLA.
Ask the seller to confirm in writing which class it is supplied as, whether it needs DVLA registration, and whether VAT relief applies.
