About
About this site, and about XSTO
An independent guide for people in the UK who are considering an XSTO powerchair – and for the families, carers and professionals who help them decide.
We are independent
xstos.co.uk is an independent UK website about XSTO mobility products. It is not operated by XSTO. Product details come from the manufacturer — always confirm specifications before buying.
What this site does
XSTO’s chairs are unusual – self-balancing, four-wheel-drive and stair-climbing designs – and the information about them is spread across several websites that don’t always agree. We bring it together in one place, in plain English, with the UK rules and funding routes alongside.
- Every model has its own page with the full specification, highlights and an honest list of things to consider.
- The compare tool lines the specifications up side by side, and the selector suggests models based on your needs, with reasons.
- Our guides summarise GOV.UK, HMRC, the NHS, Motability, the CAA and National Rail on the questions buyers ask most.
How we check information
Product figures come from XSTO’s own corporate site and online store, cross-checked against the UK distributor’s pages. When those sources disagree – for example on range, charge time or warranty – we say so and show both figures rather than picking the more flattering one. UK rules come only from official sources, and every page says when it was last checked.
We don’t publish star ratings, reviews or testimonials, and we don’t invent prices. If we couldn’t verify something – such as whether a model is on the Motability Scheme, or which certifications apply to which model – we tell you that instead.
Spotted something out of date or wrong? Please tell us and we’ll check it.
About XSTO
XSTO is a Chinese robotics manufacturer, headquartered in Zhongshan, Guangdong, that makes self-balancing and stair-climbing mobility products alongside stair-climbing equipment for moving goods.
XSTO describes itself as a provider of 'embodied mobile robotics' - machines that move over difficult ground, including stairs. Its own sites give different founding dates: the corporate site says 2016 and its online store says 2014. The company is headquartered in Zhongshan, Guangdong, and its corporate site lists subsidiaries in Guangzhou, Hong Kong and New York, with branches in Beijing and Shanghai.
The business has three product lines. Personal mobility covers powered wheelchairs and mobility robots; material handling covers electric stair climbers, trolleys and transport vehicles for moving goods; and an 'exploration' line includes a wheeled bipedal robot. This website covers only the personal mobility products.
Alongside the original M4 self-balancing powerchair, XSTO's mobility range now includes the M4H with a high back and headrest, the more fully adjustable M4 Pro, the X12 series of stair-climbing mobility robots and the TR250T wheelchair stair climber. In September 2026 XSTO unveiled the four-wheel-drive M8 and M8 Pro at the REHACARE trade fair in Düsseldorf, where it also showed the EzGo2 carbon-fibre power wheelchair.
The design of XSTO's self-balancing chair, entered as the 'XSTO Mobility Robot', won a Red Dot award in 2025 and appears in the iF Design Award winners' list. XSTO's corporate site shows a range of certification and approval marks, including CE and UKCA, but does not say which apply to which product. If approvals matter to you, ask the seller for the documents for the specific model.
XSTO sells directly through its own online store, priced in US dollars. In the UK, Bentech Medical Ltd, based in Wimborne, Dorset, describes itself as XSTO's official UK distributor and supplies chairs through its Mobility Robot website and a network of stockists. xstos.co.uk is independent of both companies.
