Overview
The M4 Pro takes the self-levelling platform of the M4 and adds the things people tend to ask for once they use a chair all day: a bigger battery, a higher weight limit, a reclining backrest and a seat that tilts electrically. It comes with seat cushions in three widths, so the fit can be matched more closely to the person using it.
It also adds turn signals, brake lights and a headlight, and slows itself down with a warning on slopes steeper than 15°. The trade-off is weight and size: it is around 9 kg heavier than the M4 and noticeably taller when folded. XSTO sells it as a mobility robot and, on its US store, as a self-balancing mobility scooter, but in use it is a powerchair.

Things to consider
Our honest notes, from XSTO’s figures and UK rules. Worth raising with the seller or your assessor.
- At 60.1 kg without its battery, and 770 mm tall when folded, it is a lot to lift and needs a generous car boot. Try loading it at a demonstration.
- The top speed is 6 km/h, below the 8 mph that GOV.UK lists for road-going vehicles, so treat it as a pavement chair even though it has lights. XSTO does not state a UK class; ask the seller to confirm it.
- The standard battery works out at roughly 600 Wh (volts × amp-hours), well over the 300 Wh limit that applies if an airline needs a lithium battery removed. XSTO lists its 10.4 Ah travel battery as compatible with the M4 Pro, but a smaller battery will not give the quoted 26 km.
- XSTO's pages differ on the backrest recline angle (135° or 125°) and its accessory shop lists a 24 V 23.45 Ah replacement battery while the spec table says 25.2 V 23.8 Ah. Check the figures that matter to you with the seller.
- It is not a stair-climber. Kerbs above 85 mm going forwards (50 mm in reverse) are beyond its stated ability.

Certifications and approvals
We did not find product-specific certification documents (such as UKCA or CE declarations, or MHRA registration) on XSTO’s product pages. XSTO’s corporate site shows a range of approval marks without saying which apply to which model. If approvals matter to you, ask the seller for the documents for this model.
UK rules for this model
UK class: not stated by XSTO
XSTO quotes a top speed of 6 km/h. That matches the class 2 limit of 4 mph (6 km/h) for pavement chairs.
Ask the seller to confirm in writing which class it is supplied as, whether it needs DVLA registration, and whether VAT relief applies.
